It makes me a little sad that Night at the Museum is getting such lukewarm reviews, because I really enjoyed it. The basic premise is that stuff at the natural history museum comes alive and runs amok. That’s it; all the other plot points are kind of incidental. Critics seem to have a problem with this; they seem to wish that there was more to it. I’ve read reviews that talk about how Ben Stiller’s character was underdeveloped, so you couldn’t really understand his motivation. Or something. I was just like, “Whee, stuff at the natural history museum comes alive and runs amok! Awesome!” It was just the kind of story I would have loved as a child and I loved it just as much as an adult. And the kids in the theatre enjoyed it too — there was a round of spontaneous applause at the end. A good start to my movie-viewing year.
