As amusing as Peter Boyce’s blog is, there are good reasons why I will never go to see a Bacchanal Time show. Here’s one: this year, one of their performers is someone going by the name of John Mahmeed (I don’t know if that’s spelled correctly), pretending to be a Guyanese Indian immigrant to Barbados. As I watched TV last week I was appalled to find out that this character is portrayed by a Bajan wearing full-out minstrel-show style blackface. Call me humourless if you like, but I just can’t find that sort of stupid shit entertaining.

That is really horrifying. Why is it that this kind of crap is allowed to make it onto stage in Barbados?
