Jamaican policy-makers are considering legalising marijuana.

There have been previous recommendations, in 2001 and 2003, that possession of ganja in small quantities should be decriminalised.

Last week the U.S. State Department released its 2008 International Narcotics Control Strategy Report, describing Jamaica as “a major drug transit country and the Caribbean’s largest producer of marijuana and marijuana derivative products.” You can read that report at the State Department website.

It is possible that legalising marijuana will lose Jamaica its status as a U.S. anti-drug certified country and result in the imposition of U.S. economic sanctions.

I don’t know about them “set to legalise ganga”. What I do know of is the PM waiting on the report. Personally I don’t see them going anywhere with it. The United States will see to that with sanctions. I doubt highly its going anywhere.

I wish this would happen! Think of all the things the police could be doing instead of arbitrarily arresting people for something that is even sold publicly at political rallies!
