This hurricane season the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will be using a fleet of unmanned remote-control aircraft to fly into the eye of storms and generate previously unobtainable meteorological data.
The hurricane drones will be launched from Barbados; for safety reasons, US aviation officials have not approved the operation of the planes from US territory.
safety reasons? what da??

I think it’s something to do with the possibility that they’ll interfere with air traffic, rather than because the drones themselves are unsafe. At least, I hope that’s what it is.
