On February 5, Jennifer Figge became the first woman on record to swim across the Atlantic when she made landfall on the beach of the island (and former leper colony) of Chacachacare*, Trinidad and Tobago. (Her original destination was the Bahamas, but she got blown off course.) After a few days’ rest, Figge, who started her swim from the Cape Verde Islands, planned to continue on to the British Virgin Islands.

*Can any Trinis advise me on how to pronounce Chacachacare, so I don’t embarrass myself like I did with Caroni?

Thanks, Chennette; that is definitely not how I was saying it!
