Rest in peace, Jeanette Layne-Clark. I have to say that I don’t think that obituary does Mrs. Layne-Clark justice. (See here a fuller tribute to her life and work.) She was a stalwart of the cultural, literary and performing arts in Barbados. She gave us NIFCA, she gave us Pampalam, she gave us Lickmout’ Lou (find more mout’ lickin’ here), and so much more, and she was a pedant of the very very best kind*. She will be sorely missed.
*Who is probably remarking from the afterlife on the fact that the Nation, in reporting her passing, apparently couldn’t bother to make sure of the correct spelling of either her first name or her surname, so that both of their obituary articles (at least in the online versions) switch between spellings apparently at whim (or perhaps in an effort to cover all bases). Lord knows I may have mis-spelled it myself (I’m never sure about that last “e”), but (1) I’m not a professional media outlet and (2) at least I’ve been consistent. ↵
yea a good one gone
